We Care | For Culture
The vibrant culture of French Polynesia has inspired travelers for generations, and it remains remarkably alive after hundreds of years. We want to help this unique heritage live on, honoring the past while embracing the future. Across our properties, we strive to respect and support Polynesian culture, and to provide our guests with opportunities to learn about and experience that culture in an authentic and meaningful way.
We work with the Ministry of Culture to restore important historical sites on Tetiaroa Atoll, including important ancient marae, sacred ceremonial and social gathering places that are found throughout Polynesia. The Maitai Lapita Village Huahine features an on-site museum dedicated to French Polynesia’s oldest archaeological sites.
The InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa regularly hosts TEDx talks and keynote speakers that explore Polynesia’s fascinating cultural heritage.
Pacific Beachcomber sponsors a staff dance group that performs in the internationally recognized island-wide Heiva, a quintessential celebration of Polynesian culture featuring traditional dance, music, sports, ceremonies, and competitions. Guests at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa are treated to a Mini Heiva festival to enjoy and share in our Tahitian traditions.
Each of our properties hosts immersive Polynesian performances featuring local artists, musicians and dancers, including the award-winning Hei Tahiti dance troupe, accompanied by an authentic French Polynesian meal.
Our properties invite guests to join local artisans in creating traditional handicrafts—such as coconut leaf weavings and pareo dyeing—and in making the local culinary speciality, poisson cru.
