We Care | For the Environment
To preserve our ecosystem, we are committed to reducing and effectively managing our waste, optimizing our energy consumption, and supporting initiatives to preserve biodiversity.
To ensure optimal energy management and contribute to the fight against climate change, we have installed 5 917 photovoltaic solar panels and 3 229 sq ft of solar water heaters. We are also the first resorts in the world to have installed SWAC (Sea Water Air Conditioning) systems in two of our hotels.
To reduce our consumption and limit our environmental impact, we prefer to install equipment such as mixer taps on our sinks and showers, that limit flow and allow us to save water. We also carry out monthly reporting via the Green View tool, in order to monitor and analyze our consumption and resource management data.
To protect our unique environment threatened by climate change, we support several environmental associations, including Te Mana o Te Moana which is committed to preserving marine biodiversity and rehabilitating injured turtles, and the Tetiaroa Society, working towards a sustainable future for island communities, restoring ecosystems and preserving local culture.
To reduce the use of harmful chemicals, encourage alternative solutions and promote a healthier, more sustainable working environment, we use ozonated and electrolyzed water to clean rooms and common areas, which allows us to significantly reduce our consumption of cleaning products.
We make our clients and staff aware of the importance of reducing food waste and we transform our organic waste into compost.
We have carried out a greenhouse gas emissions assessment (GHG Inventory) for all our entities, with the support of Ludovic Schneider, engineer in ecological transition. This assessment enabled us to precisely identify our emission sources and structure an action plan around six priorities: purchasing, transport, fixed assets, fixed energy, mobile energy, water and waste management. Our goal is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3, excluding international air travel) by 50% by 2030, using 2019 as the reference year.
To help reduce greenhouse gas emissions as set out in the French Polynesia Climate Plan, we encourage and support innovative local carbon offsetting projects.
To limit our waste and manage it optimally, we have implemented up to 29 sorting and recycling lines (depending on the hotel) and we work with TSP and Fenua Ma, local waste collection leaders in French Polynesia, to manage our recyclable waste.
We promote the use of reusable, compostable or biodegradable materials in our operations, such as our wooden hotel amenities. To eliminate plastic bottles, three of our hotels have installed bottling stations, offering guests water in glass bottles, that are carefully washed and then reused, maximizing the value of existing resources.
Pacific Beachcomber continues its voluntary approach to transparency and accountability to its stakeholders with the release of its second Sustainability & ESG Report. This report provides a comprehensive overview of our social and environmental performance across our hotel operations.
Pacific Beachcomber believes in the business of sustainability and the purpose of these reports to describe the various concepts, actions, practices, and innovations which contribute to the sustainability of our business.
